CFTC Charges Google Employee Over Alleged Polymarket Insider Trading

2026-05-28 ブローカーズビュー

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has filed charges against Swiss resident and Google employee Michele Spagnuolo for allegedly using confidential Google search ranking data to profit from trades on prediction platform Polymarket.

According to the complaint, Spagnuolo, a software engineer at Google, allegedly accessed non-public information related to Google’s 2025 Year in Search rankings and used it to trade on at least 23 related Polymarket contracts between October and December 2025.

Regulators claim he operated under the username “AlphaRaccoon” and earned around $1.2 million through nearly perfect trades tied to predictions such as the most searched people of 2025.

The CFTC is seeking financial penalties, repayment of illegal profits, and trading bans.

Separately, U.S. federal prosecutors in New York have also unsealed criminal charges against Spagnuolo over the same alleged conduct.
