HK's SFC Joins Global Crackdown on Finfluencers

The HK's SFC has stepped up action against online financial influencers ("finfluencers") as part of a global initiative by IOSCO.

From 20 April 2026, 17 regulators worldwide took part – nearly double last year's number.

In Hong Kong, the SFC:

Secured a jail term for an unlicensed investment adviser

Flagged 33 suspicious social media posts/accounts to platforms → over 90% removed

Uses AI system "SENSOR" to detect misleading claims online

Regulators worry finfluencers blur education and advice, often pushing high‑risk products.
