UAE Freezes Assets of Dubai Businessman Satish Sanpal in Money-Laundering Probe

7 hours ago WikiForex

Dubai-based entrepreneur Satish Sanpal is facing a temporary asset freeze ordered by the United Arab Emirates’ financial intelligence authority, as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected money laundering, local media have reported.

The directive, issued by the UAE’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), compels banks, financial institutions, and virtual asset service providers (VASPs) to suspend access to all accounts, investments, cryptocurrency wallets, and safe-deposit boxes linked to Sanpal, his wife Tabinda, and a number of affiliated firms. The affected entities include ANAX Capital Asset Management Company, ANAX Capital Financial Markets LLC, ANAX Holding FZCO, and SSB Bazaar General Trading LLC.

Under the freeze, financial institutions must block withdrawals and transfers while still accepting incoming deposits. They are also required to verify the legitimacy of transactions and ensure that funds connected to the frozen accounts originate from lawful sources. Under UAE law, the measure is initially valid for up to 30 days, though it may be extended with the approval of the Attorney General.

Notably, the inclusion of VASPs underscores the UAE’s growing focus on digital assets within its anti-money laundering regime. These providers, alongside traditional banks, are now obliged to comply with FIU orders and report any suspicious activity.

Authorities have not revealed the specific grounds for the investigation, and no criminal charges have been brought against Sanpal so far. The businessman, who came into the public eye following his appearance with his wife on Netflix’s Desi Bling, has previously denied any wrongdoing in relation to his business dealings. Earlier this year, the Delhi High Court in India observed that media coverage had prematurely suggested guilt while the probe was still underway.

The asset freeze remains an investigative step and does not imply any finding of misconduct. Officials have not indicated whether the restrictions will be extended beyond the initial 30-day period.
